Hi! I'm Gemma and I'm looking forward to working with you!

I went through my own counselling journey dealing with anxiety and a lack of self-confidence. After gaining so much from having the time to learn more about myself, I decided that I wanted to give others that same experience. To feel truely heard is a powerful thing that should not be underestimated!

My main hope as a counsellor is that my client feels Safe and Accepted. I have a gentle way of working that supports my clients to work at the pace they’re ready to work. While I’m here to offer emotional support, I also like to offer insights, ask questions, and bring humour in from time to time. My belief is that while counselling is a deep and meaningful experience, it should also be a joyful exploration of self-discovery!

My Approach

Person-Centered Therapy - the core conditions of a person-centred therapist is to be empathetic, genuine, and accepting without conditions. It’s a talking therapy that sees the client as the expert. I’m not going to make assumptions about your life, or tell you what to do when I don’t know your full story. It’s about giving you a supportive space to untangle the knots in your head so you can see the best path forward. No one knows you better than you!

Somatic Therapy - this is about the connection between our emotions and our body. Maybe when you’re feeling nervous you feel fluttering in your tummy, or when you’re in an argument your legs shake. This is about learning how your body reacts to emotions and how we can ease that if it’s not serving you. This might involve doing some exercises like breathing techniques or bringing in tools to sooth your senses.

I mostly work with Person-Centered Therapy, but will bring in Somatic Therapy when it feels appropriate, but only if the client is willing to give it a try.
